Contributing to society:

Most of these cases are seen in the rural communities, where health care facilities are primitive or non-existent, blindness is more pronounced than the urban settlers. Because of their poverty, ignorance and lack of awareness, these people remain needlessly blind. The social and financial hardship created by blindness gravely affect individuals and families, in particular, and the nation at large. St Joseph’s eye hospital community outreach programme is seen as a mediator through the assistance of philanthropists, which YOU can be a part of. Reaching the underserved can be done effectively by our community service. We work closely with the community leaders and service groups in setting up the eye camps.

Community involvement and health education

Poverty, ignorance, superstition and socioeconomic factor play key roles in keeping poor blind people from accessing the eye care services. Our active involvement and health education contribute to the success of our community outreach programme.

The health education enables families and communities to improve their health and, in these cases, their eye sight by improving or increasing their knowledge, attitudes and skills.

Staff training and development

The community outreach programme benefits our staff by providing training opportunities.
